can we really end up with the one we truly love?

while flicking through cable a few days ago, i chanced upon the ending of this movie with josh hartnett. it was a scene at the airport where it seemed he reunited with a girl he loved. that scene didn't really make sense to me that time but i was glued to the ending because i really liked the song that was playing. the voice was familiar but i couldn't make who the singer was and later on during the credits i learned that the song playing was called "the scientist" by coldplay. i didn't know the title of the movie still.

coincidentally, a few days after that while exchanging emails with dj & trixy, coldplay was mentioned and i diligently squeezed in a description of the movie as well as the title of the song. turns out dj has already seen the movie and its called "wicker park." now, i've had that dvd for quite a looong time now but just hasn't found the time and interest to watch it ---- until now. i knew i missed a great film so i popped it into my dvd player and stayed there until it finished.

the movie is a love story but its told in a uniquely interesting way, that is from the different points of view of the characters. and as each angle is told from their perspective, the truth behind what is happening is pieced together. stuff that's happening suddenly makes sense.
i particularly love this movie for the following scenes :

  • when matt was tearing down the pictures in his room when he thought lisa left him. that was one tearful moment cause it showed how guys can be vulnerable to hurt and cry about it.
  • the confrontation scene between matt and alex at the restaurant with words being said like : "when you see something from afar, you develop a fantasy. but when you see it up close, 9 times out of 10, you wish you hadn't." "love makes you do crazy things, insane things. things in a million years you'd never see yourself do. but there you are doing them ... can't help it."
  • and lastly, the airport scene is the best scene of all. this is probably one of the best endings of a movie that i've seen. matt's face when he finally saw lisa was priceless. i was teary-eyed the whole time (damn it! hahaha).

seeing "wicker park" made me believe in love again. that after the hurt of losing someone you dearly, dearly love, you can find it again even after a long time. fate brings you back together. i guess i'm still a romantic fool after all.
