futbol madness

we can't deny that all eyes are on the ongoing world cup tournament, which like the olympics only happens every 4 years. i never really watched football before maybe in large part to how a bunch of men go back and forth across the field trying to kick a goal in. i kind of thought it was boring - but then again, that was what i thought about the formula 1 racing until i got hooked. the world cup is actually one of the biggest events in sports participated by 32 countries all in all.

i first watched the world cup games to support costa rica since some of the my officemates were original tico's before they moved here in the phoenix. while costa rica lost on the eliminations, my interest in the games prospered. who wouldn't want to watch david beckham, cristiano ronaldo, michael owen, philippe senderos, and kaka battle it out in the field. not only are they blessed with gorgeous good looks, but they can really play futbol. i think what is amazingly fun to see during the games is how much the fans support their teams from donning sometimes ridiculously loud costumes, to face paints, to big hats to anything that can catch attention. yeah, that can be how obsessed the fans can get but they do make great pictures.

what is great about the world cup right now is that i am in the US. i am in the timezone where i can watch the games live (well maybe i'd have to work from the hotel) and cheer for which team i still am trying to figure out.
